Wheeling Park High School’s newest West Virginia Army National Guard recruits Private Gillian Connors and Private Naliah Lekanudos.
PVT Connors enlisted as a Paralegal Specialist and will ship to Basic Training and Job Training in August. After training, she will attend West Virginia University and graduate debt-free courtesy of the West Virginia Army National Guard’s education benefits. PVT Connors scored so high on the ASVAB that she will earn additional funding to attend college.
PVT Lekanudos followed her sister’s footsteps and enlisted as a Fire Control Specialist. She will ship to Basic Training and Job Training in August. After training, she will attend Fairmont State University and graduate debt-free courtesy of the West Virginia Army National Guard’s education benefits.
Both will serve in the 201st Field Artillery Unit out of Fairmont, WV. We are looking forward to watching them earn the title Soldier and grow within the National Guard!

Yesterday 3/14 was Pi Day and our Algebra 1 classes had a great time designing and creating Pi-themed t-shirts in our ILC and Maker-space. Many thanks to Mrs. Moore and Miss Clatterbuck for being so creative!

To celebrate the onset of Black History Month, Ms. Zumbrunnen's AP Literature class did a search of prominent black authors throughout history and the present. They chose an author whose words inspired them. They created a design on Kami with a picture of the author and a quote that they felt embodied what the student found inspiring. They then transferred their final design to Canva and created screen prints for their very own t shirt. All done in our Maker Space in the Innovative Learning Center.
This also kicks off the class' study of black American authors!
An all-girls skate with the Wheeling Lightningbirds will be held to help promote hockey in the area. It is free for any school-aged girl and there will be free rentals as well. See image for additional details!
The Park Queen of Queens pageant is coming up on Wednesday, February 8th at 7pm in the PAC. Tickets can be purchased in the main office starting later this week. $7 adults and $5 for students. Please remember that Ohio County Schools students will get a free ticket when showing your ID. Tickets can also be purchased at the door the night of the show. Come out and support our talented students!
